Bob Dylan - Maggie's Farm ( Live at the Newport Folk Festival , 25 de Julio de 1965 )
Newport Folk Festival permanece como el símbolo de la traición de Dylan al Folk y su evolución irreversible al sonido eléctrico .
El 25 de Julio de 1965 , Peter Yarrow ( del trío Peter , Paul and Mary ) anuncia a los asistentes al Festival , la actuación y Mike Bloomfield ( guitarrista ) , Al Kooper ( teclista ) , Jerome Arnold ( bajista ) , Sam Grey ( baterista ) , Barry Goldberg ( pianista ) y Bob Dylan ( que ha sustituido su acústica por una Fender Stratocaster Sunburst para la ocasión ) suben al escenario .
Tan pronto como empiezan a sonar los acordes de “ Maggie’s Farm “ la reprobación del público es evidente .
La interpretación de esta canción trazó una línea entre el Bob folk y el Bob eléctrico . Se dice que Pete Seeger trató de cortar el cable de la electricidad con un hacha durante la actuación en protesta por el nuevo sonido de " la voz de una generación " , pero eso es tan sólo un mito .
Lo que sí es cierto es que ante la notoria hostilidad del respetable , Dylan y sus músicos deciden abandonar el escenario tras tocar durante 15’ la citada “ Maggie’s Farm “ , además de “ Like a Rolling Stone “ y “ Phantom Engineer “ , entre el abucheo generalizado .
La penosa calidad del sonido y la nueva adhesión de Bob al Rock desatarán los infiernos sobre Rhode Island .
Peter Yarrow convence a Dylan para que vuelva a subir al escenario , y esta vez lo hará sólo , con su acústica y su armónica para cantar “ Mr. Tambourine Man “ y “ It’s all over now , baby blue “ .
Pero el daño estaba ya hecho y Newport Folk Festival quedó como un punto de inflexión en el universo dylan …… al electrificar su sonido , Dylan se convirtió en el Judas del Folk .
