Steve Hackett - Watcher Of The Skies : Genesis Revisited (1996)
El nombre del disco delata la intención de Steve Hackett, su creador. Podemos decir que este guitarrista, creador de la técnica del tapping, junto a otros grandes del rock como Bryan May (Queen) es poco conocido por su trabajo en solitario. Sus andaduras en la primera mitad de los 70 con el grupo de rock progresivo Genesis (junto a otros grandes como Peter Gabriel, o Phil Collins) le marcaron; esta siempre sería su sombra. Pero realmente él fue quien marcó a Génesis, con su guitarra, y su estilo. Virtuoso de la guitarra Clásica (Escúchese starlight, The palace of Theseus o Between the cold moon and the earth, pertenecientes a su álbum de guitarra Clásica A Misdummer Night's Dream , otro disco destacable), y malabarista de la eléctrica, reúne todas sus habilidades en la grabación de este enorme disco, tributo al mencionado grupo, si bien es cierto que con su propio estilo, notablemente diferenciado, pero con las bases inconfundibles de Génesis.
El disco en sí, es un “recopilatorio” de temas versionados del grupo y temas propios de Steve que guardan ese espíritu.
Colaboraciones: John Wetton (King Crimson/Asia/Roxy Music), Bill Bruford, (Yes/King Crimson), Ian McDonald (King Crimson/Foreigner), Paul Carrack (Mike & The Mechanics/Squeeze/Ace), Chester Thompson (Genesis/Weather Report/Frank Zappa Band), Tony Levin (King Crimson/Peter Gabriel Band), Colin Blunstone (The Zombies/Alan Parsons Project), and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Es en este apartado en el que se aprecia la cantidad de influencias que Steve recibe, sin tener en cuenta toda la experiencia absorbida del guitarrista, mezclando estilos brasileños, con las guitarras más rockeras, y el estilo instrumental de los años 70. Todo Se junta en una obra con mayúsculas.
