FORMACION:
Jon Anderson: vocals
Tony Kaye: keyboards

Tratando de continuar con la fórmula de "Owner of the Lonely Heart", en 1987 se establecieron en la localidad de Caramati al norte de Italía, recluídos en un castillo acondicionado para la producción del nuevo trabajo en estudio. Sin embargo, en el proceso Jon Anderson ya cada vez más distante del giro que estaba tomando la banda por aquel entonces decidió retraerse al rol de mero cantante de sesión, dejando en manos de Trevor Rabin, tanto la composición como los arreglos de casi todos los temas del álbum. Esto, más los constantes conflictos del productor Trevor Horn con Tony Kaye ante la negativa de éste de ejecutar sintetizadores, y no hacer oídos a sus instrucciones técnicas, llegando incluso a grabar sus pistas en su acostumbrado Hammond en un estudio aparte para escapar de la tutela del productor, éste decide finalmente abandonar el trabajo de producción, teniendo que ser reemplazado a ultima hora por Paul DeVilliers. Esto, además de la notoria falta de protagonismo de los demás miembros de la banda, relegándose a si mismos a la categoría de mera banda acompañante, a diferencia de los discos anteriores con el sello característico de Yes, hizo de Big Generator (1987) un suceso menor al descargo anterior. Pese a todo, fue todo un éxito en ventas a nivel mundial, con singles como "Rhythm of Love" y "Love Will Find a Way", llegando a destacar en las radios y en las listas de popularidad, tras luego de lo cual se embarcan en una éxitosa gira mundial.
