Los hermanos Lutero ( guitarra , mandolina , voz) y Cody Dickinson ( batería) , formaron el North Mississippi Allstars en 1996 con Chris Chew ( bajo ) . Los hijos del Productor Musical Jim Dickinson nacieron en Fayette County , Tennessee . Se mudaron al Norte de Mississippi , donde absorbieron el sonido Country-Blues de artistas como Mississippi Fred McDowell y R. L. Burnside . Esa fue la principal inspiración para los Allstars, pero el sonido del Grupo bebe tanto de la estética alternativa , como de la sensibilidad del Rock más tradicional o de una Jam-Band de antaño . Los North Mississippi Allstars debutaron con el album “ Shake Hands With Shorty “ en el año 2000 . “ 51 Phantom “ al año siguiente . En 2001, la North Mississippi Allstars se asoció con John Medeski y Robert Randolph para formar WORD , una Banda instrumental Gospel-Blues , para un álbum y la gira correspondiente . A continuación , se reagruparon, con la entrada de Duwayne Burnside ( Hijo de R.L. Burnside ) grabando “ Polaris “ en el 2003 . Seguiría el álbum en Directo , “ Hill Country Revue: Live at Bonnaroo “ a finales de 2004 y “ Electric Blue Watermelon “, con invitados de la talla de Lucinda Williams, Robert Randolph, La Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Otha Turner y otros , que apareció ya en 2005 . “ Hernando “ , se convirtió en el primer lanzamiento de las canciones de la banda en su propia Etiqueta , SONGS FROM THE SOUTH y fue publicado en 2008 . En 2009 se publica este album que Hoy os presentamos , “ Do It Like We Used To Do “ , un disco doble de actuaciones en Vivo entre 1996 y 2008 , que también incluye un tercer disco en el que , un video documental , hace un recorrido musical sobre la Banda .
