ENTREBOTONES tiene el placer de presentar a PLAYA CUBERRIS con su nuevo LP "ENTRAR A MATAR"


Estos chavales lo parten. Punto. Fin de la cita. Realmente no se debería tardar mucho más en escribir y explicar si una banda merece una escucha serena y detenida, o si por el contrario, todavía no ha llegado su momento. Pues bien, Playa Cuberris se acaban de ganar ese derecho con la publicación de su segundo trabajo, Entrar a matar (Entrebotones 2017), un disco en el que la manida declaración de intenciones cobra más sentido que nunca.

Pongámonos en antecedentes. Los rockeros somos una tribu, rara y no especialmente mayoritaria, pero consecuente y pasional. Y aunque sintamos devoción por los clásicos, necesitamos creer que las nuevas generaciones nos salvarán una vez más de tanta mediocridad musical. No pedimos mucho realmente: Un sonido poderoso, conocer tu instrumento, un buen saber hacer, una actitud coherente y desafiante, por qué no decirlo, y ser capaz de emocionar a tu público.

Aquí es donde entra Playa Cuberris, una banda emergente a la que le ha llegado su hora. Con un discurso heredero de los Tequila (70s), Radio Futura (80s), Platero y Tú (90s) o M-Clan (00s), junto con las vivencias de su generación actual, con una devoción claramente manifiesta por los iconos del grunge, Pearl Jam y un buen gusto a la hora de hacer grandes medios tiempos, canciones emocionantes y con empaque, ganan muchos puntos con el cambio de dirección realizado desde su debut, "Bienvenidos a Ningún Lugar" (2013).Aquel año, la formación madrileña produjo junto a su paisano Juan Blas, cantante de Nothink, un trabajo noventero , con aires frescos y desenfadada actitud.


Apenas tres años después “Entrar a matar” les conduce con sobriedad a un lugar donde las ideas claras suelen llevarte al éxito. “El rey de la ciudad”, “Furia nuclear”, “Huracán”, “Grifo y gas” o “Blues de nevera” son la espina dorsal de un sonido evidentemente americano, que en ningún momento cae en la petulancia de lo que conocemos como ‘americana’ sino que encuentra su acomodo en la traducción natural que solemos hacer de ese lenguaje en nuestro país.

Muchos asociaréis(-emos) el timbre de voz de Pedro Girón con Carlos Tarque, y bienvenidas sean las comparaciones con el mejor cantante de soul-rock de nuestro país, pero para qué hacer pública nuestra ignorancia, que tampoco nos lleva a buen puerto, no nos quedemos ahí. Tarque es The Faces, es puro Rod Stewart. Si queréis ubicar a Girón acertaréis si lo situáis un poquito más cerca de Eddie Vedder.

Más allá, los matices que nos ofrecen en este disco nos atisban la posibilidad de estar ante un grupo con bastantes y buenos recursos sonoros, bien sea por el guiño al indie-rock festivalero de “Luces de Neón”, el sonido actualizado, puro 2000 de “Viejo amigo”, donde es más patente la influencia de su productor Eduardo Molina (SCR, Tomaccos, Idealipsticks), devoto seguidor de la religión de Jack White, bien sea por el corazón fronterizo de “María Isabel” o los fraseos cercanos al funk de “Viernes verdes”. Incluso por las baladas “Locos de atar” y “Quizá”, que nos constatan que es en los tempos más tranquilos donde se aprecia mucho mejor el sonido Pearl Jam.

Puede que no haya sido el mejor trabajo de la banda estadounidense de Athens , pero sí uno de los álbumes más celebrados de R.E.M. , y está considerado entre 100 mejores discos de todos los tiempos por la revista Time .

El año pasado se cumplieron 25 años del álbum que impulsó definitivamente a R.E.M. gracias al éxito de temas como “ Losing my religión “ , todo un himno atemporal que ha traspasado generaciones .

El grupo , un cuarteto por aquel entonces , estaba formado por Michael Stipe (voz) , Peter Buck (guitarras) , Mike Mills (bajo, teclados) y por Bill Berry (batería y percusión) .
